The Exploded View can now be visited free of charge at Design Museum Ghent (Belgium) until 22 June 2021. This research installation of a deconstructed house shows how a house can be built circularly using biobased materials.

The Exploded View was first presented during Dutch Design Week 2020 and is now on tour visiting various locations to inspire people with the existing and future possibilities of sustainable building and living.

The Exploded View was developed by Biobased Creations in collaboration with a group of pioneers in circular and biobased construction, The Embassy of Circular & Biobased Building.

Materials of the day after tomorrow

The installation incorporates applications and materials from today, tomorrow and the day after tomorrow. From products that already exist but are still finding it hard to find their way to the construction site to developments that still need serious support to develop and scale up. The Exploded View thus refers to the endless, potential material streams that are in stock but are hardly used in the building world. Designer Pascal Leboucq of Biobased Creations: “More and more building materials are made from food waste, textiles, sewage, buildings or even our own living environment. We show our search for materials that can keep the production circle as small and efficient as possible.”

Following The Exploded View, Biobased Creations is now working on a life-size portrayal of circular living environments, explaining how circular and biobased construction and design affects much more than the building sector. With this they advocate upscaling and system change.
