Under the name BIO-CAPPP, six partners from Flanders (Belgium) and the Netherlands will collaborate intensively in developing and marketing new high-performance products based on bio-aromatics. Bio-aromatics replace fossil chemicals and give properties such as scratch resistance, adhesion and gloss to the products they are in, include paints and coatings, textiles and adhesives.

BIO-CAPPP stands for ‘Biorizon Centre for Applications & Products with Premium Properties.’ This is an initiative of VITO, TNO, CENTEXBEL, Avans University, Kamp C and the Green Chemistry Campus. In the Shared Research Centre Biorizon, VITO and TNO have been collaborating for ten years on the technological development of bio-aromatics from sugars, lignin and unrefined waste streams.

In the Biorizon Application Centre at the Green Chemistry Campus in Bergen op Zoom, companies can now work with knowledge workers and students to apply bio-aromatics in their products for the construction and textile sectors, among others. Innovation vouchers are available for this purpose. In addition, the partners anchor the developed knowledge and skills in educational programmes, so that the workers of the future can put sustainable innovations into practice at companies.

The BIO-CAPPP project has a total budget of €4.3 million and is co-financed by Interreg Flanders-Netherlands, the cross-border cooperation programme with financial support from the European Regional Development Fund and the province of Antwerp.
