With the Rething Waste Student Challenge, Wageningen University & Research challenges students to develop a circular biobased solution to a current waste problem.
Editorial office / Wageningen

This could involve anything: a business idea that contributes to a world without waste, a prototype of a product made from biomass, or a new technology to efficiently extract high-quality products from biomass residual streams.

The competition offers students the chance to make a positive impact on society, expand their knowledge and network, and gain entrepreneurial skills.

Important dates

On 23 November 2022, there will be an online information session from 17:00 to 18:30. There you will meet participants from previous years and be able to ask questions about this year’s challenge.

A Meet & Match Event will follow on 1 December 2022 on site in Wageningen from 17:15 to 20:15. Here you can connect with other students and put together a team. You will also meet the partner companies about what they expect from circular biobased entrepreneurs.

Registration for the challenge is possible until 31 December 2022. With the support of top experts from Wageningen University & Research, participants will develop their idea into a solid business proposition from January to June 2023, ready to pitch to the jury and potential investors. The final will be at the end of June. The winning team will take home €6,000.

The Rethink Waste Challenge is organised by Wageningen University & Research with support from several partners including Dalco Food, the BioProcess Facility (BPF), PaperFoam, Cosun, StamiCarbon and Fuji Oil. Visit the RethinkWaste website for more information.
