The BBI JU project RoadToBio was completed this week with the publication of a Roadmap, aimed at increasing the market share of biobased products in the chemical industry. It consists of a complete toolkit for entrepreneurs who want to bring their biobased products to the attention of chemical companies.

RoadToBio has the objective of increasing the share of biobased products in the organic chemical industry in the EU from 10% in 2016 to 25% in 2030. The currently published road map consists of three documents that support entrepreneurs in a practical way.

  • The Action Plan provides an overview of the opportunities and obstacles for the application of biobased resources in the chemical industry and the associated actions.
  • The Strategy Document provides background information on the drive for biobased market growth and elaborates on the opportunities and obstacles for increasing the share of biobased chemicals in nine product groups.
  • The Engagement Guide contains means of communication and easily readable information about bio-based chemicals and the Roadmap. This helps producers to streamline their communication efforts, to approach partners and customers in the right way and to promote their biobased products. For example, the communication guide contains recommendations for communicating with different target groups about biobased products.

The RoadToBio consortium consists of DECHEMA Gesellschaft für Chemische Technik und Biotechnologie, BTG Biomass Technology Group, E4tech and the nova-Institut für politicalische ökological Innovation. The project was co-funded by the Bio-Based Industries Joint Undertaking (BBI JU).
