Waste is the raw material of the circular economy. And those who have access to raw materials can direct the recycling chain. Like Omrin in Heerenveen, voted the most sustainable company in the Netherlands in 2019.

“Omrin wants to be the driver of the circular economy,” says managing director John Vernooij, who is also chairman of the Circular Friesland Association. “Everything we do is all about closing chains. From organic waste we make biogas, from recovered mineral concrete products and from waste plastics granulate for new plastics. ”

In this way, Omrin builds a complete ecosystem around waste recycling in the Northern Netherlands together with other companies. “This way we get more value from the chain than if everyone would do it for themselves.”
