The biobased industries should become an indispensable part of the EU's geopolitical strategy, according to Dirk Carrez, director of the Bio-Based Industries Consortium (BIC), in a blog post on Agro&Chemistry.

According to Carrez, the role of the European bioeconomy and the biobased industries in particular must be recognised in all policy initiatives of the EU, such as the EU Green Deal, Horizon Europe, the EU Industrial Strategy, the Sustainable Chemicals Strategy, Farm to Fork and the EU Taxonomy.

This is important in Europe’s ambition to become the first climate-neutral continent, but also because of the need to make the EU more self-sufficient in a greener way, due to the war in Ukraine. The new partnership in the bioeconomy, the Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU), can play an important role in this process.
