On 17 and 18 March 2022, the event series "Eco-Innovations with Biomass" will take place for the seventh time. The event is held every two years, with an interruption due to Corona.

Over 200 participants from all over the world discuss the bioeconomy, green chemistry and sustainable land use concepts during the Eco-Innovations with Biomass congress. It offers network opportunities with experts from research and politics and the opportunity to exchange ideas with practitioners and companies.

Climate change

Climate change and climate protection are the central fields of action of our time. Binding CO2 reduction targets and implementation strategies (Green Deal, Fit for 55) have been agreed for all economic sectors at both European and national level. In addition to the goal of climate neutrality and the EU’s plan to achieve negative emissions after 2050, the European Climate Change Act of April 2021 sets a binding climate target that net greenhouse gas emissions must be reduced by 2030 by at least 55% by 2030 compared to 1990 levels. This affects all sectors of the economy.

Agriculture

Agriculture is also strongly challenged. The Federal Climate Protection Act, which was tightened up in August 2021, requires the agricultural sector to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 20% from 2020 to 2030 and at the same time calls for an increase in the carbon sink effect of the entire land use sector to at least minus 40 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent by 2045. Binding annual interim targets have been set and climate protection measures defined for this purpose.

Renewable Energy and Mobility

The Lower Saxony Climate Protection Act sets priorities for better system integration of renewable energies, as well as in the area of sustainable mobility. These fields of action have been and are currently being addressed in the German-Dutch Interreg cooperation projects (BioEconomy – Green Chemistry, H2Chance, Green Across the Border) and in the state project “Bio-LNG Model Region”. These topics and fields of action will be addressed at the 2022 congress and solutions will be presented and discussed by expert speakers and participants.

Companies, knowledge institutes, research institutions and other interested parties are cordially invited to submit posters or to present themselves as exhibitors (online).

ECO Innovations from Biomass is sponsored by the Federal State of Niedersachsen, Niedersächsisches Ministerium für Bundes- und Europaangelegenheiten Und Regionale Entwicklung, Bio-ökonomie Grüne Chemie, EDR, Interreg Deutschland-Nederland, Interreg North Sea Region Carbon Farming, Ministerie van Economische Zaken en Klimaat and the Dutch provinces of Drenthe, Fryslân, Groningen, Gelderland en Noord-Brabant.
