One third of all food waste occurs during processing. In this way, 41 tons of food are wasted every year in the EU. The European Model2Bio project aims to change that.

Model2Bio aims to develop a decision support system based on mathematical models. This should make it easier to identify, select and reuse organic waste streams from the agri-food industry. The model will specifically relate to the composition of residual flows, volume and transformation, as well as logistics and business cases. The project started in May 2020 and will run until April 2023. It is funded by the Bio-based Industries Joint Undertaking (BBI JU) under the EU Horizon 2020 program.

A short survey has been set up to map out the regular waste management procedures in the agri-food sectors. This anonymous survey can be filled in via the link below this message. It will take about 5 minutes and help the Model2Bio team to design and improve the decision-making tool and prioritize the needed features.
