The construction of the Hydrohub MegaWatt Test Centre has started on the Zernike Campus in Groningen. The open innovation centre will open its doors in the summer of 2022.
Editorial office / Groningen

The open innovation infrastructure will be used to conduct research and perform megawatt-scale stress tests with water electrolysis. This is needed as a stepping stone to future production by the process industry of sustainable hydrogen on a gigawatt scale. Suppliers of materials and components for membranes, anodes, electrodes, pumps, etc. can test the impact of their products in the test centre.

This project is a building block of our Hydrohub Innovation Program and therefore aligned to other hydrogen initiatives by the process industry and academics like the so-called GW-study and some mid-term projected pilot projects (e.g. a 20 MW demo in 2022 by Nouryon and Gasunie) and a new tenure track programme by NWO in the field of electrochemistry.
