The vote legally enshrines previous agreements on Horizon Europe and the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT). It means that the European Commission can now publish the work programmes and allocate money to European research projects on the basis of a Strategic Plan.
Of particular importance for parties in the biobased economy is the so-called cluster 6, about food, bioeconomy, natural resources, agriculture and environment. Research and innovation activities in this cluster should contribute to the objectives of the European Green Deal concerning the biodiversity strategy up to 2030, the Farm to Fork strategy, the European Climate Pact and initiatives in the framework of sustainable industry and pollution eradication, as well as the long-term vision for rural areas and the objectives for sustainable development.
Horizon Europe also streamlines the number of partnerships that the EU co-programmes or co-funds with partners such as industry, civil society and funding foundations.
