Since 1 September 2024, the consortium of 16 organisations from across Europe and Israel has achieved a series of technical, scientific and exploratory milestones. All planned results were delivered on time. Notably, TripleW and Sulzer produced the world’s first food waste–based PLA bioplastic well ahead of schedule, derived from TripleW’s lactic acid stream. The PLA was then used by Sulapac to create a cosmetic packaging prototype. This milestone represents a crucial step towards building a fully integrated value chain for biochemical production from food waste streams.
CIRCLE (Circular Initiative for Recycling and waste Conversion into Lactate Extracts) is a four-year Innovation Action funded by the Circular Biobased Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE-JU) under Horizon Europe. The project is coordinated by TripleW Ltd.
