he 2020 BBI JU Call for proposals is now open until 3 September 2020, 17:00 CET. With an indicative budget of €102 million, it covers 16 topics in four strategic orientations: feedstock, process, products, and market uptake.

Five Research and Innovation Actions (RIA), seven Innovation Actions (four Demonstration Actions and three Flagship Actions), and four Coordination and Support Actions (CSA) are called for across the 16 topics, ranging from efficient processing of biomass feedstock supply to bringing bio-based products to the market.

This year’s Flagship topics, with a combined maximum budget of €47 million, are:

  • F1 – Valorise the organic fraction of municipal solid waste through an integrated – biorefinery at commercial level. Budget: maximum of €15 million.
  • F2 – Turn lignin into materials and chemicals for high-end applications. Budget: maximum of €16 million.
  • F3 – Produce food ingredients with high nutritional value from aquatic sources. Budget: maximum of €16 million.
