Greenport Venlo: the place to be!

Greenport Venlo has both the ambition and potential to occupy a top position as a centre for agro-food business and agri-logistics. The agro-food business in Northern and Central Limburg is one of the most productive, sustainable and profitable in the world. The region is the Netherlands’ second largest horticultural area. When combined with the neighbouring German region of Niederrhein (Lower Rhine), Greenport Venlo is even the largest horticultural region in Europe.

Greenport Venlo has been the Netherlands’s logistical hot-spot for several years now, and is characterised by a sophisticated infrastructure. With excellent road, rail and water connections, Greenport Venlo is the junction connecting the mainports of Rotterdam, Antwerp and North Rhine-Westphalia, and thanks to an industrial park of approximately 5,400 hectares, it is also an ideal place to locate a business. The presence of good educational facilities and applied research forms the foundation for the continued development of high-level economic activity.

A tailored knowledge landscape

The development of the Brightlands Campus Greenport Venlo is improving the climate for companies located in the region. The objective of the campus is to facilitate the business community through education, research and the transfer of knowledge. The campus focuses on the agro/food sectors and healthy nutrition, with cross-overs into manufacturing and logistics.

With the Innovatoren and Villa Flora as distinguishing landmarks, the campus site serves as a home to laboratories, testing locations, R&D facilities, upscaling research, incubator sites and training possibilities, and offers space for meet-ups between participants in training courses, start-ups and companies from within and outside of the region. The campus also acts as a networking organisation in which questions cropping up from the business community, innovation activities, meetings, the development of new business concepts and the like are linked to the knowledge found in the educational institutes and the possibilities these training programmes and students can offer. This synergy provides education with permanent stimuli from the business practice, thus better enabling it to respond to educational issues. This benefits both business and education.
